About Kimyatta
Kimyatta N. Chaney is the creator of Indigo Lila’s Whimsical World™, a children’s author, storyteller, entrepreneur, literacy advocate, and proud grandmother whose greatest inspiration is her real life granddaughter, Indigo Lila.
What began as treasured moments shared between a grandmother and granddaughter grew into a beautifully illustrated world of stories created to spark imagination, curiosity, confidence, joy, and a lifelong love of learning.
Inspired by Indigo Lila’s wonder filled questions and adventurous spirit, Kimyatta creates stories that celebrate love, family, kindness, courage, discovery, history, representation, and the belief that every child carries something extraordinary within them. Through each story and experience, she creates meaningful opportunities for children and families to learn, imagine, connect, and build lasting memories together.
Her books invite young readers to explore the animal kingdom, discover inspiring Black women in history, dream boldly, and see themselves reflected in stories filled with positivity, purpose, and possibility.
A retired Philadelphia police officer with more than two decades of public service, Kimyatta has dedicated much of her life to serving and uplifting others. Today, she continues that commitment through children’s books, literacy experiences, school and library programs, community engagement, youth advocacy, entrepreneurship, and creative expression. Her mission is to encourage children to believe in themselves, embrace their uniqueness, recognize the greatness within them, and dream without limits.
What started as a story for one little girl has blossomed into a growing universe of children’s books, coloring books, games, animation, educational resources, literacy experiences, kids’ ambience, keepsakes, merchandise, and future adventures. As the real Indigo Lila grows, her whimsical world will grow alongside her, inspiring generations of dreamers, explorers, and lifelong learners.
